| George Wilkerson Jr., Assistant Music Director |
|
| The Tallahassee Civic Chorale
welcomes our assistant music director, George Wilkerson, Jr! Mr.
Wilkerson brings a lot of experience in conducting/directing bands and
choral groups to the Chorale, plus he is a dedicated volunteer in the
community, teaching literacy and reading to those who are unable to
read and/or speak in English. Mr. Wilkerson has a Bachelor's in Music Education from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. He was the Director of Music at Kendall Community Church in Miami. Mr. Wilkerson has also taught at Glades Middle School in Miami, the Kendall Conservatory of Music in Miami, and at Concord High School in Wilmington, Delaware, teaching choral music, voice, percussion and piano. He has directed the chorus for the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Concert Band at West Chester University. Mr. Wilkerson currently teaches music at John Paul II Catholic High School in Tallahassee, has taught reading at Riley Elementary in Leon County, and currently serves as a voluntary tutor for the Literacy Volunteers of Leon County. Those of you fortunate enough to see Theatre A La Carte's Side Show during the summer of 2005 will remember George in his role as the Cannibal King. More recently, some of us got to see George perform as Citizen Chauvelin in Theatre A La Carte's Scarlet Pimpernel. This was a great show whose opening night was performed as a benefit to the Chorale, and George did a wonderful job, as usual. |
